Replicability
Learning from Aragon: How healthier forests and greener schools can strengthen climate resilience.
Best suited for
School-based NBS are particularly suitable for municipalities, schools and education authorities seeking affordable ways to reduce urban heat and improve children’s well-being. The forest management approach is well suited to public authorities, forest owners and environmental organisations facing increasing pest pressures linked to climate change.
Stakeholders' role
The demonstrator brings together the Government of Aragon, schools, research and technology centres, forest managers and citizens through a co-design approach that ensures the solutions respond to local needs while remaining scientifically robust.
Built-in scalable tools
The project combines practical NBS with digital tools that support climate planning and replication. These include resilience dashboards, decision-support tools, participatory digital platforms and scenario-based methodologies that help other regions assess climate risks, engage stakeholders and adapt the solutions to their own context.
Funding pathways
The demonstrator was developed through the Horizon Europe-funded CARDIMED project under grant agreement ID: 101112731. By demonstrating both environmental and economic benefits, including the valorisation of mistletoe biomass, the project creates opportunities to mobilise additional public and private investment for forest restoration, urban greening and climate adaptation.
