Create your future – Participatory workshop for creating goals for climate adaptation efforts/work

The tool gives guidelines for the preparation, implementation and follow up of an adaptation vision/goal-establishing workshop. It also contains material & supporting documents for conducting the workshop; this can be adapted to the specific region.

  1. Create a common vision and common goals for the climate adaptation work in a region, municipality or other organisation.
  2. Inspire and educate groups in organisations that need to be involved and take on responsibilities in climate adaption work.
  3. Goals can be reformulated as quantitative and qualitative objectives, to be included in an Action Plan for Climate Adaptation, and can also be monitored and evaluated.

Strengths and weaknesses, comparative added value to other similar tools

Strenghts:
(+) Truly participatory and gives room to different perspectives and competences. By starting with an introduction to climate adaptation and transformation, the participant´s knowledge is raised.
(+) Introduces the need for transformational changes.
(+) Explicitly addresses the need of vulnerable groups.
(+) Easy to manage and to adapt to different contexts.
(+) The analogue material is simple and very hands on.
(+) Creates inspiration and hope and a good starting point for practical planning.

Weaknesses:
(-) To be effective, the workshop requires at least 3 hours of time, should be situated in a planning context and must be summarized and followed up.

Input(s)

A description of the challenge, region and climatic conditions that the workshop will address. For further info: see the Tool Guidelines.

Open source information.

Output(s)

The tangible outputs are images and written summaries describing a shared vision of the goal of climate change adaptation work – this is how we want a climate-adapted society to look and function!
The way forward/next step for the adaptation work in the organisation should be formulated at the end of the workshop.
Below an example output is shown of a city adapted to high temperatures and heavy rains.
