OBJECTIVE
GENESIS is pioneering the demonstration of how NbS can bolster the climate resilience of critical water infrastructure, focusing on the islands of Macaronesia. By prioritising the protection and sustainable management of freshwater resources, the project aims to enhance water efficiency, promote reuse, and safeguard local communities from the adverse impacts of climate change.
KEY ACHIEVEMENTS
GENESIS is actively implementing and showcasing NbS strategies across the Macaronesian biogeographical area, establishing a robust demonstrator for climate-resilient water infrastructure. The project is at the forefront of developing innovative methods to capture, store, and safeguard water resources, thereby reducing stormwater runoff, preventing soil erosion, and enhancing groundwater storage to mitigate the impacts of extreme weather events. GENESIS is paving the way for sustainable water management practices that benefit both ecosystems and island communities in Macaronesia.
