DIY Manual

MIP4Adapt has developed a DIY manual to help regional and local authorities identify which participatory activities and tools can be used throughout their climate adaptation planning, including good practices and local experiences.

The manual is created to build a common understanding and ownership of climate adaptation plans and actions, which is key to their successful delivery. Whether you're a region with strong traditions of citizen engagement or just starting out, the latest Manual offers resources for everyone, including guidance, practical steps and tips.

DIY Manual on engaging stakeholders and citizens in climate adaptation: Methods, tools and good practices (2026)

Engaging stakeholders and citizens enhances the relevance, effectiveness, and credibility of climate adaptation plans, builds trust and supports a collective mandate for implementing adaptation actions. Developed by MIP4Adapt, this DIY (Do-It-Yourself) Manual for regional and local authorities emphasises four key actions for engaging stakeholders and citizens in climate adaptation: 1) Communicating with clear and accessible information, 2) Engaging stakeholders and communities, 3) Connecting stakeholders and citizens to facilitate collaboration, and 4) Enabling collective and individual action.

EU language translations of the Manual will be available shortly.
