Healthy landscapes, resilient mountains: ecosystem-based approaches for climate adaptation

The summer of 2026 was marked by severe wildfires, drought and water scarcity across several parts of Europe. These events have highlighted the growing climate pressures facing mountain regions and the urgent need to strengthen the resilience of our landscapes and communities.

Hosted by Mission Project, MountResilience, this webinar will showcase two complementary approaches from different mountain regions in Europe, illustrating how nature-based solutions, innovation and local knowledge can contribute to building climate resilience.

First, we will travel to the Pyrenees to explore how agro-silvo-pastoral landscape mosaics can support climate resilience, drawing on the experience of LIFE MIDMACC. We will then move to the Carpathians, where the MountResilience Râu Sadului demonstrator region will share its experience of combining drone technology, soil restoration techniques and local knowledge to restore degraded mountain meadows and strengthen their resilience to climate change.

Through these two experiences, participants will discover practical solutions already being implemented in mountain regions, explore how ecosystem-based approaches can strengthen resilience, and gain insights into the lessons learned and challenges encountered along the way.
