Climate change is increasing the frequency, intensity and complexity of disasters across Europe, from floods and wildfires to heatwaves, droughts and coastal hazards. As these risks continue to evolve, regional and local authorities play a critical role in protecting communities, critical infrastructure and essential services while ensuring long-term resilience.
This event, co-organised by the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change and the Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO), will explore practical solutions that support disaster risk management at the regional and local level. Bringing together regional and local authorities, civil protection practitioners, experts and members of the EU Mission Adaptation Community, the session will explore tools, resources and approaches that can help authorities better assess and manage risks before disasters occur, strengthen preparedness and response capacities, improve coordination, and support resilient recovery from disasters.
Participants will learn how European initiatives, networks and knowledge resources can support disaster risk management on the ground, while hearing directly from regional and local authorities and civil protection actors that are putting disaster risk management solutions into practice. Through presentations and peer exchange, the event will provide participants with practical insights, lessons learned and transferable solutions that can help strengthen disaster risk management and resilience in their own territories.
