Climate risk assessments are essential and underpin the development of a regional climate adaptation plan and strategy.

MIP4Adapt has published the Assessing Climate Change Risks and Vulnerabilities DIY Manual to support regions and local authorities in conducting a climate risk assessment.

The DIY manual describes the core elements of a climate risk assessment, from preparing the ground to assessing the climate outcomes, such as the risks and opportunities the region may experience.

Slow-onset changes and extreme weather-related events can result in climate-related hazards. These hazards may impact a region or local authority in terms of their:

· People

· Ecosystems and species

· Economic, social, and cultural assets, and

· Services.

Assessing the risks (and opportunities) of such impacts will provide a sound basis for identifying and prioritising what actions should be taken to adapt to climate change.

MIP4Adapt has also produced accompanying templates in Excel to explain how to conduct a climate risk assessment.  This will underpin the development of your regional climate adaptation plan or strategy.
