The European Commission has announced a major €86 million investment through the LIFE Programme, funding five new long-term strategic projects in Denmark, Estonia, Poland, Slovenia, and Iceland. These multi-million, multi-year initiatives will support Europe’s transition to climate neutrality by 2050 and deliver on key EU environmental and climate policies.
Three of the selected projects will contribute directly to the recently launched European Water Resilience Strategy, improving water efficiency, access, and infrastructure across borders. Other projects will focus on nature restoration, circular economy, and coastal protection.
This funding round is part of the wider €5.4 billion LIFE Programme (2021–2027) and aligns with several EU strategies, including the Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, the Water Framework Directive, the Nature Restoration Law, and the Climate Adaptation Strategy.
The Commission has also adopted the work programme for the implementation of the LIFE Programme in 2025–2027. It sets out key strategies, actions, and funding opportunities with the aim of driving Europe’s transition to a clean, circular, competitive, and climate-resilient economy. The work programme establishes an overall budget of €2.3 billion for projects tackling the circular economy, zero pollution, nature and biodiversity, climate mitigation and adaptation, and clean energy.

To support potential applicants, the LIFE Info Days 2025 will take place from 13–15 May, with a dedicated session on Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation on Wednesday 14 May.
