The European Commission is inviting cities, regions, and all local authorities to take part in the new public consultation on climate resilience. As the frontline of climate impacts and key drivers of Europe’s preparedness, your experience and expertise are essential for shaping the future EU framework on climate resilience.

Your local experience matters for Europe’s future

Across Europe, cities and regions are already facing the growing damages and costs of climate change. Heatwaves, droughts, floods, fires, coastal erosion, and storms threaten communities, infrastructure, local economies, and public services.

The upcoming EU framework on climate resilience, to be adopted in late 2026, aims to strengthen Europe’s capacity to anticipate, prepare for and reduce climate risks. It will focus on protecting people’s health and well-being, anticipating and reducing high-impact risks, strengthening preparedness at all levels, especially local and regional, and promoting innovative climate-resilient technologies, products and services.

Local authorities called to help shape the future

The open call for evidence this summer showed strong support for bold, coherent EU action, including resilience-by-design, harmonised climate risk assessments, nature-based solutions as a first line of defence, stable long-term funding for adaptation, and consideration of climate-related health impacts.

Now it is your turn. Europe’s cities and regions have hands-on insights into what works on the ground. This public consultation is your chance to ensure the future EU framework reflects local needs, realities, and opportunities.
