MIP4Adapt has launched a new DIY Manual for Engaging Stakeholders and Citizens to support local authorities in enhancing citizen and stakeholder engagement in climate adaptation efforts. The Manual provides a hands-on guide to involving citizens and stakeholders in every phase of climate adaptation planning, from preparing the ground for adaptation to monitoring and evaluation.
By actively involving communities, regional and local authorities can develop strategies that better reflect local needs and concerns. Citizen participation also fosters a sense of ownership and commitment, making adaptation efforts more sustainable over the long term. When stakeholders are engaged, they contribute valuable insights and resources, creating a shared responsibility and broad support for climate actions.
The Manual is designed to simplify the engagement process, offering practical tools, good practices, and real-world examples that regions can adopt in their adaptation planning. It is structured around the Regional Adaptation Support Tool (RAST) and offers different participatory tools and activities for each of the six steps.
This updated version of the Manual also presents four thematic flyers that outline participatory activities tailored to various aspects of adaptation planning. These include innovative approaches to foster creative engagement, methods to bring private sector players on board, and strategies for supporting vulnerable groups. The Manual promotes a whole-of-society approach, ensuring that all voices are included in the conversation on climate resilience.
The Manual aims to inspire EU regional and local authorities to harness community creativity, engage businesses, and build inclusive climate strategies that leave no one behind.
