The EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change successfully hosted its Second Annual Forum in June in Blekinge, Sweden.
The event saw over 400 in-person and online delegates gather for a day full of insightful and inspiring discussions, fostering collaboration between national authorities, regions and other Mission stakeholders to deliver on climate adaptation.
The Forum was an opportunity to take stock, identify issues, provide direction, and define the path ahead. It also showcased regional initiatives on adaptation facilitated dialogue between the participants of the Forum.
The annual event kicked off with a welcome message from Frans Timmermans, European Commission’s Executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal and Commissioner for Climate Action Policy, highlighting the need for urgent climate action as Europe experiences real-time effects of the climate crisis. He said: “The EU Mission Adaptation is an important catalyst for transformation across European communities. Through synergies with other climate missions, we develop a more comprehensive response. And by focussing on the local level, we address the inevitable impacts of climate change in the most effective way possible.”
This was followed by panel discussions, lightning talks, breakout sessions and networking opportunities – all focussing on the importance of increasing collaboration and shared learnings between national authorities, regions and local communities to deliver on climate adaptation.
The recording of the event and the slides are available on the Forum webpage.
