Romania, with a diverse climate ranging from continental conditions in the plains to cooler temperatures in its mountain regions, is strengthening climate resilience through active engagement in the Mission. A total of 25 local and regional authorities are participating in Mission Projects, supported by 9 Charter Signatories (regions/local authorities that have signed the Mission Charter and committed to striving toward climate resilience by 2030), and €11.66 million in EU funding has been allocated.

AdaptationHubs boosts coordination on climate adaptation, while helping national and local governments to share solutions and strengthen their approaches to managing climate risks.
The Romanian adaptation hub is developed around the RO-ADAPT platform, which was built by the National Meteorological Administration (ANM) for the implementation of the updated National Adaptation Strategy (approved by the government in August 2024).

Climate Adaptation Platforms (CAPs) are national, regional, and local web-based hubs offering datasets, evidence-based information, tools, and case studies to drive climate resilience.
They contribute directly to the Mission by providing access to national, regional, and local climate datasets, evidence-based information and guidance, as well as practical tools and case studies to support adaptation action. Each CAP is tailored to the country, region or community that it serves to support the design and implementation of adaptation strategies and plans.
Many CAPs foster peer-to-peer learning. They also act as gateways for regional and local authorities to engage with wider initiatives and, thereby, align their actions with national and EU priorities.

In the Romanian mountain communities of Râu Sadului and Cristian, innovative techniques are being used to restore 40 hectares of degraded mountain meadows, addressing the growing impacts of climate change such as drought, biodiversity loss and soil erosion. Drones for scanning, seeding and fertilisation support a modern, data-driven approach to adaptive land management.
Fierbinți-Târg is adapting to climate change through collaborative governance and smart data. By working with neighbouring municipalities, the community turns local insights into action through its new Integrated Geographic Information System, setting a strong example for regional climate resilience.
Building a climate-resilient Black Sea is only possible through regional collaboration, as emphasised by the stakeholders who participated in the Living Labs envisioning the region’s future. Advanced monitoring technologies, real-time data collection, enhanced data-sharing, and a virtual watershed framework all play a crucial role in supporting climate adaptation efforts in the region.
