Spain, with a predominantly Mediterranean climate featuring hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters, is driving climate resilience through strong engagement in the Mission. A total of 52 local and regional authorities are participating in Mission Projects, supported by 26 Charter Signatories (regions/local authorities that have signed the Mission Charter and committed to striving toward climate resilience by 2030), and €71.76 million in EU funding has been allocated.

AdaptationHubs boosts coordination on climate adaptation, while helping national and local governments to share solutions and strengthen their approaches to managing climate risks.
The Spanish National Adaptation Hub (NAH) is hosted by the Deputy Directorate of Adaptation within the Spanish Office for Climate Change (OECC), with ICATALIST as implementing partner. The current focus is on linking the EU Mission on Adaptation with ongoing national processes, particularly in relation to adaptation planning and risk assessment. This includes identifying relevant knowledge, tools and experiences from the Mission and assessing their relevance for the Spanish context.

Climate Adaptation Platforms (CAPs) are national, regional, and local web-based hubs offering datasets, evidence-based information, tools, and case studies to drive climate resilience.
They contribute directly to the Mission by providing access to national, regional, and local climate datasets, evidence-based information and guidance, as well as practical tools and case studies to support adaptation action. Each CAP is tailored to the country, region or community that it serves to support the design and implementation of adaptation strategies and plans.
Many CAPs foster peer-to-peer learning. They also act as gateways for regional and local authorities to engage with wider initiatives and, thereby, align their actions with national and EU priorities.

In Bilbao, Spain, a major urban adaptation project transformed a heavily trafficked road into a green public corridor to address climate risks such as flooding and urban heat. By replacing asphalt with permeable surfaces, expanding green infrastructure, and reallocating space to pedestrians, the project significantly improved air quality, reduced flood risk, and enhanced thermal comfort.
Navarra is enhancing flood resilience by developing municipal self-protection plans. The plans provide local governments with structured strategies to mitigate flood risks, protect communities, and improve emergency responses in their municipalities.
In the province of Soria, Spain, forests have become a living laboratory for climate change adaptation, showing that anticipatory, knowledge-based, and flexible forest management can turn climate threats into opportunities.
