Description

Baixo Alentejo, part of the Alentejo region (NUTS II), faces high climate vulnerability, with extreme heat and water scarcity as the most critical risks. Baixo Alentejo falls into the "high susceptibility"  risk class. Extreme heatwaves further exacerbate these impacts on ecosystems, agriculture, and public health. Investments made in recent years created water storage systems to cope with the scarcity, but more investments must be promoted in order to face future challenges. The main focus in Baixo Alentejo is to accelerate regional climate  transformation by operationalising the Climate Change Adaptation Intermunicipal Plan (PIAACBA).
