Description
Central Portugal faces increasing climate challenges and vulnerabilities, including droughts, heatwaves, and forest fires. These threats can lead to soil erosion, biodiversity loss and decreasing investment in agroforestry systems.
Within RESIST, the region is focused on promoting its resilience towards the occurrence of forest fires through integrated approaches, including:
- New governance models based on the Integrated Areas of Landscape Management Plan (AIGP) and 'Village Condominiums' approaches, with land use and occupation charges
- Co-creation and demonstration of new business models, including biomass valorisation for the production of renewable gases
- Community engagement of private landowners, municipalities and other strategic stakeholders.
