RESIST Region Success Story: Normandy

Normandy faces increasing climate-related vulnerabilities, particularly in relation to water and coastline area management. The region is already experiencing coastal erosion, coastal flooding, more frequent periods of drought and heavier rainfall events leading to flooding and runoff.

Barentin’s RESIST approach began with a Cerema analysis to pinpoint where renaturation and desealing would have the greatest impact on flooding, heat island reduction, ecological corridors, and overall urban quality. The study produced interactive maps and a hydraulic model showing how runoff behaves under different rainfall scenarios, guiding where Nature‑based Solutions (NbS) are most needed. These insights were followed by stakeholder training and a study on NbS social acceptance, using hypothetical scenarios and citizen workshops to explore suitable interventions. Together, these actions equip Barentin to plan effective NbS projects, reduce flood risks, and strengthen long‑term climate resilience.
