Best suited for
This model is best suited for coastal regions where aquaculture plays an important economic role and where climate change threatens production through changing marine conditions. It is particularly relevant for regions with significant shellfish production seeking to strengthen resilience through digital monitoring, climate-informed management and evidence-based decision-making.
Stakeholders' role
The model relies on a participatory approach bringing together producers, researchers, public authorities and technical experts to co-design and implement adaptation measures. This collaborative process ensures that solutions respond to local needs while encouraging long-term uptake. Technical development was led by Centro Tecnológico del Mar (Cetmar) and research groups from the University of Vigo.
Built-in scalable tools
The three solutions have all reached technology readiness level 7 or above, demonstrating their maturity and potential for deployment in other coastal regions. They are designed for operational use by end users and can be transferred to similar aquaculture systems, provided local environmental and production data is available for calibration.
Funding pathways
The pilot was developed through the Horizon-Europe-funded TransformAr project, under the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change.
