REHUBS addresses climate vulnerability in rural and small-to-medium communities facing increasing risks such as droughts, heatwaves, wildfires, floods, and biodiversity loss. The project seeks to strengthen their resilience by providing an integrated framework of adaptation solutions, advanced digital tools, and participatory approaches, tailored to the specific needs of the rural communities.
OBJECTIVE
The project’s main objectives are:
- Identify climate and weather related challenges, by providing a comprehensive climate risk and vulnerability assessment as well as improved weather forecasts for hotspot rural areas
- Design and implement multi-level adaptation solutions for agricultural climate-related challenges (smart water irrigation systems, risk modelling and early warning systems for floods, droughts and wildfires, Nature-Based Solutions for circular water recovery), as well as for wildlife biodiversity monitoring
- Co-create and deliver a set of user-friendly ICT tools to support small local authorities and communities in climate adaptation through a Risk Assessment and Adaptation platform, an AI chatbot on adaptation and an Online academy for education and capacity building.
- Facilitate community engagement participatory activities and capacity building through the Rural Micro Hubs (RMH) acting as Living Labs centered around the 4 Demo Cases. RMH will facilitate P2P support to small rural communities.
- Test and validate REHUBS solutions and secure collaboration with other regions to replicate, scale up and bring close to market solutions.
- Accelerate the adoption of REHUBS solutions in rural communities and foster the mobilization of financial resources for rural investments.
